Thus far, two congressional efforts related to economic relief from the effects of COVID-19 have been signed into law: The Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2020 signed into law on March 6, 2020, and the Families First Coronavirus Response Act which was signed into law on March 19, 2020. Currently, The United States Senate is working on the third bill, known as the CARES Act. Additional bills will almost certainly be required.
RID is a 14,000+ member-driven organization. Approximately 70% of our membership denotes themselves as Freelance. Please, contact your Senators and Congressional Representative and share your story how COVID-19 is affecting you. Insist that any future legislation contains provisions which covers freelance interpreters and translators, as well as other self-employed professionals.
